A CPA license and public-practice accreditation are different

Passing the CPA examination is not the same as completing the registration required for public practice. The Philippine Accountancy Act requires CPAs, firms and partnerships engaged in public accountancy to register with the Board of Accountancy and PRC. Renewal is every three years.

Before accepting work, verify the accreditation that applies to your practice and its expiry. Do not assume a valid professional identification card replaces it.

What can happen without the required accreditation?

Noncompliance can expose a practitioner to regulatory action. The Accountancy Act also provides criminal penalties for violations upon conviction. a fine of at least ₱50,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both.

Those consequences are not automatic because a form is missing. The facts, applicable provisions and proper proceedings matter. The Board also has disciplinary powers, including suspension or revocation for specified grounds with due notice and hearing.

If your status is uncertain, obtain advice before continuing the affected work. Confirm the requirements with PRC and BOA rather than relying on a colleague’s past application.

A QAR finding is not automatically a revoked license

The 2025 amendments to the QAR rules distinguish findings, improvements and significant audit deficiencies. They provide a remediation process, with a maximum period of 18 months from receipt of the final inspection report.

Unresolved deficiencies, unsatisfactory action or refusal to remediate can lead to further regulatory action. Do not treat a finding as harmless, but do not describe every adverse result as an automatic criminal conviction.

QAR registration offenses and inspection findings are also different. The rules set sanctions for failure to register or renew QAR registration. Those should not be presented as a simple penalty ladder for “failing inspection.”

First, understand the report and the deadline

Read each finding with the supporting facts and relevant standard. Assign a responsible person. Agree the remedial action and evidence needed. Keep the deadline visible.

If you disagree, use the prescribed process and obtain appropriate advice. A dispute does not justify ignoring a notice. Confirm with the relevant office what must be submitted and when.

Build a practical remediation record

For each issue, record the finding, cause, action, owner and due date. Keep proof that the action was implemented and reviewed. Training alone may not resolve a weak process. Check how the next engagement applies the change.

This is a workflow suggestion. Follow the inspection report and official requirements for your case. Accreditation renewal may involve different evidence depending on whether the firm is awaiting inspection, in remediation or has completed the process.

Where OLi Audit fits

OLi Audit helps organize engagement tasks, working files, review notes and completed records. A firm can keep remedial actions visible and supporting material together. Inspection sharing provides controlled access to archived audit files.

Software does not issue accreditation, decide a QAR result or guarantee compliance. Professional judgment and regulatory responsibilities remain with the practitioner and firm.

Bring one review or remediation workflow to an OLi Audit demo. Ask how the team would assign the action, track it and find the supporting evidence.

Sources and your next step

Check your accreditation expiry and QAR status now. If there is a notice or deficiency report, identify the immediate deadline and obtain advice specific to the case.
